City students stabbed in racially aggravated assault
———————————-
Two City University students were stabbed in a fight on 5 November on St John Street.
The fighting began on Thursday evening around 7.40pm near the Gloucester building, which houses the prayer room for Muslims. According to a statement on the Islamic Society website, the fighting continued outside the Social Sciences building, where the security guards on duty inside the entrance took no action.
“The attackers also attacked four Muslims right outside the Social Sciences building and NO security guards came to the Muslims’ aid, and they were just sitting inside,” the website claims.
It goes on to say that there are no security cameras, apart from the one inside the building recording the entrance area and that the attacks came “from any and every hidden corner.”
In total, six Asian men were assaulted by a group of black and white men, four of them stabbed. Three men, aged 17, 18 and 19 have been arrested for a “racially aggravated assault” and remain in custody. The four stabbed men were taken by ambulance to the University College Hospital with two other individuals, who received treatment for cuts and bruises. They were all released the same day.
The police made an appeal to members of the public who might have witnessed or have information relating to the incident to contact them on 02074210107 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800555111.
